Residency through your UAE company
One of the main reasons founders choose a UAE setup over a purely offshore one is residency. A UAE company can sponsor residency visas for its owners, for its employees, and for their eligible family members. The residency is genuine: it allows the holder to live in the UAE, and it underpins practical things such as opening personal bank accounts and signing tenancy agreements. It is, however, tied to the company. It depends on the company remaining active, and it has to be renewed.
The establishment card
Before a company can sponsor anyone, it needs an establishment card, sometimes called an immigration card. This is the document that registers the company with the immigration authorities and gives it the standing to sponsor visas. Cosmos arranges the establishment card as the first step of any visa work.
The visa process, step by step
Establishment card. The company obtains its establishment card, which allows it to sponsor residency visas.
Entry permit. Each applicant is issued an entry permit. This allows the person to enter the UAE, or to begin the status change if they are already in the country, for the purpose of completing their residency.
Medical test and biometrics. The applicant completes a medical fitness test at an approved centre and gives biometric data. Both are done in person, in the UAE.
Emirates ID and visa stamping. The residency visa is issued and the applicant receives an Emirates ID, the national identity card that every UAE resident holds.
Cosmos manages and tracks every applicant through these stages, so you always know exactly where each person stands.
How many visas a company can sponsor
The number of residency visas a company can hold depends on its setup, and this is one of the practical reasons the choice of setup matters. Free zone companies are usually sold with a defined allocation of visa slots, often tied to the package chosen, and further visas can frequently be added, sometimes by upgrading the office arrangement. Mainland companies have their visa capacity linked directly to the size of the office space the company leases: more space supports more visas. If you know you will need to sponsor a particular number of people, tell Cosmos at the very start, because it can shape which setup, and which package, is right.
Family and dependents
A resident can usually sponsor their immediate family, a spouse and children, for residency, and in some cases other dependents such as parents. Sponsoring family generally depends on the sponsor meeting conditions, including a minimum salary or income level, and each dependent goes through their own entry permit, medical and Emirates ID process. If you intend to bring your family, raise it early, because it affects both the setup and the planning.
Renewal
UAE residency visas are issued for a fixed period and must be renewed before they expire, as must the company's establishment card. A lapsed visa carries fines and complications. Where Cosmos manages your company, it tracks these dates and handles the renewals, so residency does not quietly expire.
One important exception: holding companies
Not every UAE setup can sponsor visas. The clearest example is the ADGM Special Purpose Vehicle, which is a passive holding company and cannot sponsor employee or owner visas at all. If residency is part of your plan, this matters, and it is a reason to be clear with Cosmos about your residency needs before the setup is chosen. A structure that cannot deliver the residency you need is the wrong structure, however well it does everything else.
What Cosmos does
Cosmos arranges the establishment card, prepares and submits each visa application, coordinates the medical and biometric steps, and tracks every applicant through to their Emirates ID. It also tracks renewal dates so nothing lapses. Where an immigration question goes beyond the standard process and needs specialist advice, Cosmos will say so and introduce you to it.
Plan residency from the start
Residency is not an afterthought to bolt on once the company exists. How many visas you need, and for whom, can change which setup and which package is right. Raise it in your first conversation with Cosmos, and the whole setup can be built around it.
